Technical team of Ordnance Factory Khamaria (OFK) managed to rectify technical fault in production of 125-mm anti-tank ammunition under Mango Project. The ammunition is likely to be fielded soon for proof firing at Balasore firing range after validation from Russian collaborator. If the technical team is to believe ‘Mango Project’ will be soon back on track to kick-start bulk production of anti-tank ammunition. Sources informed that technical fault occurred due to expiring validation of a component following the delay of project. Production work of the ammunition was badly hampered for almost one year due to delay in import of consignments during lockdown.

Validity of one of the components was expired and production of around 600 units was scrapped. The factory administration was in dilemma following stopping of project a month back. Technical team of Russian agency conducted a rigorous testing of glue used in fixing of a case on tail of the ammunition. Laboratory report confirmed that standard size of case was varied due to expiring of its validity. OFK team worked on war footing and managed to makeover technical issue with Russian component. Samples of ammunition were sent to Russian agency for its validation and starting its proof tests at Balasore firing range.

Technical officers are optimistic that now ammunition has no fault and it will be soon test fired to meet all the clearances. Production of 125-mm anti-tank ammunition was started in collaboration with Russia as ‘Mango Project’. Production of 5,000 rounds of ammunition was carry forwarded from previous financial year but it could not be started current year after stopping materials supply during lockdown.
