The issue of Thermal Power Plants operating in State and the electricity production from it was raised in the House. On the question related to the Madwa Thermal Plant, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said that the plant in Janjgir-Champa is the most expensive plant in the country. It is such a thorn in the throat, which you can neither take in nor spit out, said the Chief Minister in reference to the question related to Madwa Thermal Power Plant. BJP MLA Saurabh Singh asked the question during the Question Hour of the House. The MLA said that the government will benefit more by increasing the production of Madwa plant.
 
On this, the Chief Minister said, “According to the agreement that has been done with Telangana, it is our obligation to give electricity. But the Telangana government is not giving Rs 2000 crore due on it. It only gives interest money.” He said that the Madwa Thermal Power Plant is the most expensive power plant in the country.
 
“If we get the remaining Rs 2,000 crore from Telangana, we can increase the production at the plant. But we only get the interest money,” said the Chief Minister. In response to a question related to production in the thermal power plants across the state, Chief Minister said that Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Thermal Power House Korba East has production capacity of 500 MW, Hasdeo Thermal Power Station has production capacity of 840 MW, Korba West Extension 500 MW and Atal Bihari Vajpayee Thermal Power Plant Madwa has production capacity of 1000 MW.
