The Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection of Nagpur Zone were severely impacted due to lockdown and temporary closure of business activity by the Government to control the spread of COVID-19 pandemic in FY 2020-2021. According to data, the GST revenue collections stood at Rs 11,455.72 crore in FY 2020-2021. The GST collections were significantly lower by Rs Rs 1,193.43 crore as compared to FY 2019-20 registered at Rs 12,649.15 core. The GST collections had dropped by 9.43 per cent. Similarly, the GST collection in Nagpur Zone in the fiscal 2018-2019 stood at Rs 11,857 crore, said sources.

Nagpur Zone GST Department consists of total 24 districts in Maharashtra including 11 districts of Nagpur Division, 8 districts of Aurangabad Division and 5 districts of Nashik Division. Some of the largest public sector units and multinational companies contribute towards the GST collections like Western Coalfieds Limited (WCL), Skoda, Manikgarh Cement, Ultratech Cement and Maratha Cement, sources added. From June onwards, there was a pick-up in revenue collections as the economy started to open up cautiously, sources said. The GST collections took a sever beating as most businesses across the country were temporarily closed down due to last years lockdown which started from end of March. From June onwards, after a gap of three months there was a pick-up in revenue collections as the economy started to gradually open up, sources said.
