Nagpur district is experiencing a very scary situation as new cases of COVID-19 and number of deaths are increasing constantly. On Sunday, the district registered 4,110 new COVID-19 cases while 62 persons died due to this dreaded virus. On Sunday, the district registered 4,110 new COVID -19 cases including 1,200 cases in Nagpur rural and 2,906 in city. Of the 4,110 cases, four are from outside Nagpur district.

 

With these the cumulative positive cases reached 2,41,606 with 1,052 persons are the residents of places from outside Nagpur district. COVID-19 deaths are constantly rising. As per the chart sent by the District administration, 62 persons died due to the virus in city while Nagpur rural witnessed 29 deaths. Of the 62 victims, 4 were the residents of places outside Nagpur district. This has taken the cumulative deaths to 5,327 (870 persons who died in Nagpur were the residents of outside Nagpur district). Nagpur district on Sunday witnessed further improvement in COVID-19 recoveries. It is on second consecutive day that the district has witnessed rise in recovery. Today, the district’s recovery rate stood at 80.67%. With 3,497 persons becoming corona-free in Nagpur district the cumulative recovery reached 1,94,908. The recovery rate too has improved by 0.70% to 80.67%.

 

Number of active cases has slightly gone up to 41,371. Despite Sunday, the holiday the testing count has witnessed rise by 3,000 to 18,135. Number of testing in Nagpur rural reported is 7,533 while city’s count stood at 10,602. This has taken the cumulative testing count to 16,92,973. The samples examined through RT PCR were 13,025 while 5,110 were through Rapid Antigen Test. Apart from the samples of Nagpur district, the people from Nagpur and out of city approached various laboratories in Nagpur to get themselves examined. The samples came for examination at various laboratories in Nagpur include virology laboratory of Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGGMCH) (955), Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) (643), molecular diagnostic laboratory of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) (1,564), National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) (231), Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) (795) private laboratories (8,837), Antigen (5,110).

 

 

 

Ravindra Thakare, District Collector and Chairman of District Disaster Management Authority, has stated that ample stock of Remdesivir injection is available in the district and that too at reduced price now. As on April 1, around 12,000 vials of Remdesivir were available at the depots of various companies. Nagpur receives the stock of vials twice or thrice in a week, from respective companies.

 

As per the press release issued by Thakare on Sunday, as many as 14,140 vials of Remdesivir injections of five different companies were available. These companies include Cipla, Zydus, Hetero, Mylan, and Jubilant. The vials had cost in the range of Rs 2,800 to Rs 5,400. However, Thakare stated, the cost of each vial had reduced to Rs 899. In fact, Mylan company has revised its rate for Government supply to Rs 599 plus Goods and Services Tax, stated the District Collector. According to Thakare, Remdesivir vials are distributed to Civil Hospitals and other Government hospitals in Vidarbha through Government machinery.

 

The company depots supply vials to private hospitals. As far as medical oxygen is concerned, Thakare stated that Nagpur city had only one producer with a plant having capacity to produce 95 MT daily. Two other big producers produced medical oxygen through air-separation process and the capacity of their plants was 50 MT, he added. Through these producers, four re-fillers in city get medical oxygen, and from re-fillers, around 160 MT/day of medical oxygen is supplied to Government and private hospitals in the city. Considering the current situation, the District Collector has asked Inox Air Production Pvt Ltd, Butibori MIDC, to provide all oxygen produced at its plant for medical purposes.

Ravindra Thakare, District Collector and Chairman of District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), issued orders in this regard. Accordingly, Avinash Katade, Resident Deputy Collector and Chief Executive Officer of DDMA, stated that requisite manpower has been deputed at the COVID Control Room for the purpose. At present, officials/employees have been given duties till April 30. The COVID-19 patient or their relatives in need of help may contact the COVID Control Room by dialling the Helpline number.

 

They may get information about availability of beds in hospitals, supply of medical oxygen, availability of ventilators, ICU beds. Besides, the hospitals can get information about supply of Remdesivir injection and medical oxygen. The control room will facilitate necessary arrangements, stated Katade. Their duties have been arranged in three shifts -- 8 am to 3 pm, 3 pm to 10 pm, and 10 pm to 8 am -- on specified dates.
