The theme, ‘Accelerating Digital Transformation in Challenging Time’ is relevant for the World Telecommunication Day to be observed on May 17. The COVID pandemic has shaken the entire civilization and its technological advancements but the telecom sector is playing crucial role during this pandemic time for connecting patients to doctor and providing a platform for online consultation. This era is going to upgrade the technology for providing utmost benefits of tele-medicine and tele- education as the best means in implementing the COVID-19 protocol. Bharat Ratna Bhimrao Ambedkar Institute of Telecommunication Training (BRBRAITT), Public Relation Officer, Pankaj Rai, while talking to ‘The Hitavada’, emphasised on the optimum utilisation of advanced telecommunication technology in providing medical treatment, education and other consultations during the COVID period.

Tele Medicine- Telecom technology will transform current tele-consultation to real time live tele medicine services. Where small devices will collect the data from patient who is at very remote place can be immediately sent to doctor for further consultation. It can save transportation and reporting time. Tele Education- Entire world has been shifted from offline to online mode and TSP/ISP like as BSNL are providing uninterrupted backhaul and last mile internet connectivity to its users. So that this pandemic time can be utilized for undisrupted education.

Smart transportation and surveillance: Any transport vehicle can be tracked with fleet tracking mechanism and law & order can be maintained with CCTV surveillance systems. Social Media: The fastest way to share, connect and communicate on social media is possible with higher speed technology like as FTTH and LTE. However, now many more advanced telecom technologies are available in the open market but there is an urgent need of initiative on the part of the Central and State Governments and other private organisations to adapt to some technology for ensuring the reach of online medical, education and other essential consultancy in urban as well as rural areas for hte benefit of the masses.
