Vet surgeons remove 80 kg plastic from cow’s stomach

Veterinarians at Gorakshan Sabha removed 80 kg plastic from the stomach of an ailing cow in hours long operation performed on Saturday. In what could be termed as undiscerning use of plastic and its disposal, the cow was found to have ingested huge quantity of plastic from the waste that could have proved fatal for her. Sunil Mansinga, a Gorakshak and National Secretary of Goraksha Vibhag of Vishwa Hindu Parishad, noticed the cow at Badkas Chowk in Mahal. Mansinga regularly offer fodder to cows in Mahal area.
 
On Saturday morning, he noticed that plastic choked the nose and mouth of the cow. He observed that the cow was frequently kicking her stomach. On being informed, veterinarians of Gorakshan Sabha checked the animal. They found that the stomach of the cow had expanded causing multiple problems to the bovine. The vets brought the cow at Gorakshan Sabha and decided to perform surgery to save the animal. It took hours for veterinarians to surgically remove a whopping 80 kg of plastic waste from stomach of the cow.
 
Veterinarian Dr Mayur Kate and his team including Shekhar Meshram and Mukesh Chawre performed the surgery. Harshal Arvikar, Dongre, Sumit Mainkar and Ashish Kawle of Gorakshan Sabha also provided their help during the surgery. According to the veterinarians, condition of the cow is now stable and she is under medical observation. The veterinarians observed that the cow was consuming plastic waste for many years which got accumulated in her stomach. Gorakshan Sabha and Vishwa Hindu Parishad also appealed to the citizens to stop dumping plastic waste in their locality to avoid such incidents with animals.
