12-year-old Eklavya to represent India at World Sailing Championship in Italy

Star sailor of Madhya Pradesh Water Sports Academy, 12-year-old Eklavya Batham, will represent India at the World Sailing Championship, to be held at the Riva Del Garda in Italy, from June 30 to July 10. Eklavya Batham is the only participant from Madhya Pradesh to be selected in the Indian team for the championship. Eklavya will be taking part in the Optimistic Class Boat Event. He is accompanied by sailors from Goa, Mumbai and Hyderabad. Madhya Pradesh State Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Yashodhara Raje Scindia, expressed her elation and congratulated Eklavya on his selection Scindia and the warden of the academy wished him luck and hoped that Eklavya wins medal for the country.
 
The head coach of the academy and a recipient of the Vishwamitra Award GL Yadav reported that Eklavya has been receiving professional training at the sailing academy from the last four years and currently also stands at the first position in the national rankings. At the age of eight years, Aklavya was first selected during the talent search summer camp scheme. He first tried his hands at kayaking but due to polluted water in the lake he had to give up the sport. According to reports, Eklavya got skin infection due to the water and he shifted to sailing. Eklavya learned swimming while going fishing with his father Sanjay. He learned swimming at the tender age of six years. Eklavya got interested in sailing looking at his brother Aman. But the elder brother could not make a mark in the sport but Eklavya showed improvement and interest and got selected for the academy.
 
Athlete Babita wins silver Athlete Babita Patel won a silver medal for the Madhya Pradesh in the 60th National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championship held from June 25 to June 29, Contesting in the pole vault event, Babita achieved the medal by jumping up to a height of 3.40 metres. State Minister of Sports and Youth Development Yashodhara Raje Scindia lauded and congratulated Babita on her achievement. Director, Sports and Youth Welfare, Pawan Jain also congratulated the winner and assured all possible help.
