HIGH on confidence with the second place finish at the Silver Lake Chess Festival, Indian Grandmaster Raunak Sadhwani will be participating in the Serbia Open Masters Chess Tournament which begins at Metropol Palace Hotel in Belgrade from Friday. In the field of around 300 Chess Masters including IMs and GMs, Sadhwani has been ranked 26th for the nine-round competition. GM Nihal Sarin is the only Indian in top 10, seeded eighth. Hosts Serbia will have 152 participants while Turkey will see 42 players vying for the top honours.
Thirty Indians will be participating in the competition. In the recently concluded Silver Lake competition Sadhwani, who was seeded sixth, finished with a silver medal. He garnered seven points from possible nine in the competition. In the entire tournament Sadhwani did not lose a single game winning five and drawing four. His confidence boosting performance will definitely help Sadhwani in the Serbia Open Masters.
