Dr R G Atram, the present Director of Institute of Science who has contributed a lot to the Institute, has been transfered to the Institute of Forensic Science situated in the same premises. Dr Anjali Rahatgaonkar, a student of the institute, on Wednesday, took charge as the head of her almamater. Dr Atram, working as Director of Government Institute of Science for the last eight years, has several achievements for the institute to his credit. It was his leadership that brought A Grade of National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The issue of receipt of autonomy to the institute was pending since long. Dr Atram got that prestigious status for the institute. Rarely any head could bring the funds alloted by District Planning Committee. But Dr Atram took lot of interest in the funds sanctioned in the meeting of DPC. In fact he tried to attend those meeting and got funds sanctioned to the College. During the regime of Dr Atram the look of the institute was completely changed.

A gym came, new library was set up, smart classrooms with WiFi facilities were developed. Hostels were in a bad shape. But Dr Atram sincerely took the issue in his hands and the hostels from inside and outside became livable. Dr Rahatgaonkar who was heading the Government Institute of Forensic Science till Tuesday has taken charge of Director of main institute. She had become the first person to head the Forensic Institute when it came into existence. She started her career at Institute of Science in 1987. She passed out in 1992 with MSc Chemistry in the same Institute. Dr Rahatgaonkar has joined as Lecture in Chemistry at the Institute. “After exactly 25 years, on same date I have taken the charge as Director of Institute of Science. I gained wisdom, vision, strength from this institute. This Institute empowered me to become the person I was always destined to be. Establishment of my laboratory, collaborations with different scientists all over the world, my research students, publications etc, these are the priceless entities I have earned under the roof of my Alma-mater,” expressed Dr Rahatgaonkar while talking to ‘The Hitavada’.
