Seeing brother drowning, another brother jumped into the canal. Unfortunately, both the brothers drowned 
 
A picnic on Independence Day turned into tragedy when two brothers from Umred town drowned in a canal of Gosikhurd dam while trying to click selfie. Bodies of the youths were fished out by the police with the help of divers on Monday afternoon, police officials said. The deceased have been identified as Vinod Madhukar Junghare (35) and Mangesh Madhukar Junghare (37), both residents of Rewatkar Layout, Umred. Vinod was an engineer with a private company while Mangesh ran a Fair Price Shop at Umred. According to police, Junghare brothers and their two friends had gone to the dam for a picnic on Sunday afternoon. After enjoying there for an hour, Vinod ventured into the water of a canal near Gosikhurd power project. He lost his balance and was swept away in the water while clicking a selfie in the flowing water, police said.
 
As Vinod was battling for life, elder brother Mangesh jumped into the water. Unfortunately, Vinod and Mangesh drowned in the flowing water. A large number of onlookers were gathered to the spot. Their friends alerted the police. Staff of Paoni police station rushed to the spot and launched a search operation. The bodies were fished out by the police on Monday at around 3 pm. A case of accidental death was registered by Paoni police.
