POLICE seized a huge stock of rice, suspected to be illegally procured, at Ravelideeh in Nandini, Durg on Saturday evening. Police forwarded a memo to Food and Civil Supply Department, Durg for seeking the report. On Saturday evening, while patrolling a Nandini police team stopped a three-wheeler and seized 8 quintals of rice which is suspected to be allotted under Public Distribution System (PDS) for fair price shops. Along with rice stock the police team also seized the rice bags laden vehicle during checking at Ravelideeh main road in Nandini, Durg as the vehicle driver Suresh Takshat, a resident of Pragati Nagar, Camp-1, Bhilai could not produce the relevant documents regarding possession and transportation of rice stock.
 
As per provision laid down under section 102 of Criminal Procedure Code the police have initiated legal action. Laxman Kumeti, Station House Officer, Nandini Police Station informed that however the rice bags were different but the stock of rice is suspected to be of PDS and procured illegally. He added that the matter was forwarded to the department concerned for seeking report in the matter. All facts would finally be ascertained on basis of reports of the department concerned and further investigation in the matter. Since the driver could not produce relevant documents police seized the rice stock and the vehicle in accordance of provisions in the procedure code concerned. The police are further investigating the matter.
