NAGPUR boys and girls made podium finishes in the recently held 31st Maharashtra Senior State Sepak Takraw Championship. The championship was held at Awadesh Krida Mandal, Wardha. In the competition, Nagpur boys defeated Nashik 2-0 in regu event to claim the title. In the 1st regu, Nagpur beat Nashik 21-12, 21-17 and in the 2nd they pipped them 15-21, 21-18, 22-20. Earlier, in the semi-finals Nagpur defeated Wardha 2-1 in regu event. Nagpur won 1st regu 2-0 with the set scores reading 21-11, 21-17. In the second, they lost 1-2 (15-21, 21-19, 24-25). But the Nagpur boys bounced back in the final regu with a score of 19-21, 21-19, 21-17. In girls section, Nagpur secured third place.
In the semis Nanded girls defeated Nagpur 2-1. In the first regu Nagpur lost to Nanded 0-2 (18-21, 10-21). In the second, Nagpur defeated Nanded 2-0 (21-11, 21-18) but in the 3rd, Nagpur lost 2-1 (20-22, 21-17, 21-19). The men’s team included Mohd Sohail, Ashit Shrivas, Samir Thool, Kunal Evnate, Irshad Saghar, Altamas Pasha, Ajay Kannojiya, Mohd. Huzaif, Mohd Kamran, Gaurav Chandraghire, Swapnil Nagrare, and Sameeruddin Sheikh. The women team comprised Ritu Sharma, Nikita Shende, Awantika Lokhande, Chetna Rangla, Sneha Uikey, Mehek Sheikh, Vedika Maurya, Awantika Baghel, Ekta, Meenakshi, Avni Baghel, and Divya Sharma. The 3-day event was held under the supervision of Mrs Mane, District Sports Officer, Wardha and Mr Badgilwar, Taluka Sports Officer, Wardha. DSO Nagpur Avinash Pund also visited the venue.
