SENIOR Indian Police Service (IPS) officers Aswathi Dorje and her husband Chhering Dorje took over as Joint Commissioner of Police and Special Inspector General Police (Nagpur Range) respectively on Saturday. Aswathi is first woman to become the Joint Commissioner of Police in the city. The post of Joint CP was lying vacant for more than a year after superannuation of Ravindra Kadam in May 2020.
 
Chhering Dorje took the charge of Special IGP (Nagpur Range) from Senior IPS officer Chiranjeev Prasad who has been promoted to the rank of Additional Director General (ADG) and transferred to State Reserve Police Force (SRPF), Mumbai. An IPS of 2000 batch, Aswathi was earlier working as Director of Maharashtra Police Academy (MPA), Nashik. Before her posting as MPA Director, she was additional CP in Brihan Mumbai. Daughter of noted film director, script writer and producer Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Aswathi had previously worked in Nagpur city as Deputy Commissioner of Police. Cherring Dorje, who too is of the same IPS batch, was earlier Special IGP (Correctional Service), Mumbai.
