Play ‘Better Half’ tugs at audience’s heart strings: National Drama Fest

Play ‘Better Half’ staged by the artists of Chetana Rang Samuh, Bhopal, on the third day of 28th National Drama Festival of Vivechana on Friday, was an emotional roller coaster. The play is written and directed by Ashish Shrivastava. It is an immortal love story between an aged couple whom we normally seen caring for each other, supporting each-other during ups and downs of life and enjoying morning and evening walks.
Play ‘Better Half’ enacted the same human emotions in which the audience drawn in a spell and did even realise when the play was over.
The play’s story revolved around a Bengali couple which as 65-year Prashant Chatterjee as husband and 62-year Sudha Chatterjee as wife, who have already spent 30 years together. Both Prashant and Sudha enjoyed great understanding and respect for each other. They have Rahul as their only son, who works in another city. After brief illness, Sudha passes away while undergoing treatment at a hospital. Later on, Prashant comes to know that Sudha died because of medical carelessness. Hence, he decides to fight for justice to Sudha and files a case against the hospital in the court. His son asks him not to file the case, but he reluctantly fights and wins the case. He distributed the compensation among the needy persons. Later on, he suffers from hallucinations and starts feeling Sudha’s presence everywhere in the home. He talks and shared every emotion with her.
Rajeev Shrivastava and Neeti Shrivastava did justice to their characters in the play. They were supported by Vivek Tripathi, Ramesh Ahire, Sunita Ahire, Asha Dhyani, Ashish Ojha, Utkarsh Khare and Ankit enacting different roles.
The entire cast was welcomed and honoured by the Vivechana family in the end.
