Over 5,000 students have taken the oath not to consume intoxicating substances under the ongoing Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s flagship programme, ‘De-addiction Campaign’, in a mega event jointly organised by the district administration and Jain monk Sandhan Sagar in Barwani of Madhya Pradesh.
The programme ‘Shiksha and Sanskar’ has been held on the campus of Shaheed Bhima Nayak college of the city in which more than 5000 students from various government and private schools and colleges of the district have taken part.
Delivering a motivational speech with examples of many successful personalities, the collector of the district Shivraj Singh said students should enhance their value by upgrading their skills and bringing positivity to their thinking and daily activities. “To build a bright career students should choose the fields of their interest, it will make their studies easier”, the collector emphasised. He threw light extensively on the benefits of de-addiction and the disadvantages of intoxication. District Principal Judge, Anand Tiwari addressed the students and spelt about the significance of sacraments and education in life.
Jain Muni Sandhan Sagar administered the pledge of not consuming narcotics to the students and he narrated the evils of addictions. The Muni also explained the importance of Sanskaras in the people’s life.
Chief Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan launched the state-wide de-addiction campaign on 2 October, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi to make people aware of the lethality of toxic substances. The campaign will continue till November 30. The district has been running several social awareness programmes under the massive campaign.
Apart from awareness activities, enforcement actions are being conducted in the district to curb the illegal selling, storing and producing of liquor and other toxic substances under the campaign. So far, several cases have been
registered in this connection and demolished many illegal establishments that found involved in the illegal business of addiction.
