A tigress was found dead in a nullah at Mouza Malegaon (Bujruk) in Hingna Forest Range, on Friday. Post-mortem of the carcass was conducted on Saturday, and after taking samples for forensic test, it was consigned to flames. During evening patrolling, on Friday, Forest Department team noticed the carcass of the tigress in the nullah at Mouza Malegaon (Bujruk), 1 km from protected forest of Compartment No 151, Neri Mankar, Umri Wagh sub-range of Hingna Forest Range. Instead of conducting post-mortem at night, the staff decided to conduct it on Saturday. Senior officials were informed about the carcass. On Saturday, the staff of Hingna Forest Range took action as per the standard operating procedure prescribed by National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA). After the Panchnama was done, post-mortem was conducted by Dr Kishor Bhadane, Dr Sudarshan Kakde, Dr Sujit Kolgat. As per the preliminary information, the tigress had died due to ‘cardio-respiratory failure’, said Reena Rathod, Range Forest Officer, Hingna. Before destroying the carcass of the tigress by consigning it to flames, samples were taken and sent to Regional Forensic Science Laboratory. P G Kodape, Deputy Conservator of Forest, Nagpur Forest Division; Narendra Chandewar and Ashish Ninawe, Assistant Conservators of Forest; Reena Rathod, Range Forest Officer; Vijay Gangawane, Athawale, Sarika Vairagade, Archana Naukarkar, and other staffers of Forest Department were present at the spot where carcass was found. Ajinkya Bhatkar, NTCA Representative; Udhamsingh Yadav, Representative of Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (Wildlife), were present when the Panchnama was done. Kodape supervised the entire operation under the guidance of Rangnath Naikde, Chief Conservator of Forest, Nagpur Forest Circle. Ninawe is conducting further investigations. It may be mentioned that a tiger had died of electrocution in a nullah in Udasa forest beat in Makardhokda sub-range under Nagpur Territorial Forest Division in March earlier this year. Carcass of another tiger was found in Risala Forest Range in Nagwadi area of Pench Tiger Reserve in March 2021. In that case, all four paws of the tiger were missing. In December 2019, a tiger had died of drowning in a pit in Bihada mines in Manegaon area in Ramtek Forest Range.
