INTERNATIONAL swimmer Jayant Jaiprakash Duble, leader of the 6-member relay team that successfully swam the North Channel between Northern Ireland to Scotland, UK, was warmly greeted upon his arrival in the city. The relay team was first from Asia to swim North Channel. The team covered a distance of 34 kms in 14 hours 39 minutes to set a new record.
On his arrival at the Nagpur Railway Station, Jayant was welcomed by Commanding Officer Colonel Amod Chandna, ANO Rahul Nagrare, Principal of Jyotiba College of Physical Education Dr Vijay Datarkar, Dr Tiwari, Dr Dhyaneshwar Dhakulkar, Sushil Durugkar, Kishor Kshtriya and members of various swimming associations of the district and sports lovers.
A grand rally was organised from railway station to Krida Chowk in Hanuman Nagar. At the felicitation programme, MLA Adv Abhijeet Wanjari, Dronacharya and Arjun Awardee Vijay Munishwar, Deputy Director Nagpur Division Sports Department Shekhar Patil, DSO, Nagpur Pallavi Dhatrak, Madhavi Mardikar, Avinash Pund, Latika Mane, Prashant Dondal, Asha Meshram, Ghanshyam Rathore, Senior Police Inspector Bharat Kshirsagar, Dr Vivek Awasare, Sudhir Abhyankar, Sachin Mathane, Milind Yewale, Nanda Parate, Anil Adhmane were among those present.
Jayant shared his experiences during his North Channel swimming.
After the rally District Collector Dr Vipin Itankar, Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Yogesh Kumbhejkar, NIT Chairman Manoj Suryavanshi, NMC Chief Fire Officer Ucchke and others congratulated Jayant for his successful expedition.
