Cong picks Mandavi for Bhanupratappur

Congress party on Wednesday named Savitri Mandavi, the widow of former Deputy Speaker of Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly Manoj Singh Mandavi, as its candidate for the Bhanupratappur Assembly Constituency by-poll in Kanker district of Chhattisgarh.
General Secretary In-charge of Central Election Committee of All India Congress Committee Mukul Wasnik has announced the name of Savitri Mandavi on Wednesday after Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge approved the proposal of the Chhattisgarh Pradesh Election Committee to field Savitri Mandavi for the by-election as the Congress candidate from Bhanupratappur.
Bhanupratappur assembly seat (reserved for scheduled tribe) got vacant after Bhanupratappur MLA and Deputy Speaker of Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly Manoj Mandavi passed away on October 16.
Three candidates viz Ghanshyam Jurri of Gondwana Gantantra Party, Savitri Mandavi of Congress and Brahmanand Netam of BJP have filed their first set nominations for the by-poll so far. Congress candidate Savitri Mandavi and BJP candidate Brahmanand Netam will file their nominations on the last day on Thursday. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and other senior party leaders will be present during the filing of the nomination by Congress candidate Savitri Mandavi. Scrutiny of nominations will be held on November 18. Candidates can withdraw their names by November 21. Voting will be held on December 5. Counting of votes will be held on December 8. There are around 1,97,678 voters including 1,01,491 female voters, 1 third gender and 855 identified Persons with Disabilities voters in Bhanupratappur assembly constituency. There are 3490 young voters, whose ages are between 18 and 19 years and 548 service voters including 19 female voters. Electronically Transmitted Postal Ballot System (ETPBS) will be issued for the service voters. In 2018 assembly elections, 77.25 per cent voters turn out was registered in Bhanupratappur assembly constituency and 71.09 per cent in 2019 parliamentary election.
