NATIONAL Commission for lndian System of Medicine (NCISM) has allowed five Government Ayurved Colleges in Maharashtra including Nagpur to admit students. A month ago, Commission had prevented these colleges from giving admissions on the grounds of non-fulfillment of criteria fixed for Ayurved colleges. There are five Government Ayurved Colleges in Maharashtra including Nagpur, Nanded, Osmanabad, Mumbai, Jalgaon. These colleges have total intake of 563 Under Graduate and 264 Post Graduate seats. As Commission coming heavily on these colleges, students and parents found themselves in trouble.
NCISM has taken stand wherein it felt, most colleges are neglecting to develop and introduce the minimum mandatory facilities. These colleges are running short of adequate manpower -- teaching and non-teaching staff. Everytime the authority concerned submit affidavit without any time-bound programme and get approval restored, Commission had observed. Dr Jayant Deopujari, Chairman of NICSM told ‘The Hitavada’, “We had taken strict action. At the same time, we had decided to give the colleges a little liberty this time so we have allowed them to hold admissions for academic year 2022-23.” Commission has given permission to these colleges for the academic year 2022-23 after the receipt of detailed affidavit. Commission had specifically asked colleges and State to submit affidavit with all details and a timebound programme. Accordingly, after the receipt of those affidavits, it sent letters to these colleges approving their demand for admissions.
These colleges have received permission for 2022-23 and if they want to continue for the year 2023- 24, they have to submit compliance report by December 31, 2022. If Commission finds the development and compliance report satisfactory then such colleges will get permission to admit students for the year 2023- 24. Dr Deopujari had already made it clear that NCISM would not compromise on quality aspect. NIMA pursued the issue with the Ministry of AYUSH, Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, Minister of Medical Education, Secretary Medical Education. Dr Vinayak Tembhurnikar, Dr Ashutosh Kulkarni, Dr Ravindra Bothra, Dr Rahul Raut, Dr Suhas Jadhav, Dr Anil Bazare, Dr Shantidas Lunge thanked Government of India, NCISM, State Government and Director of AYUSH for the relief to the students.
