Prime Minister Narendra Modi to inaugurate the prestigious event Prof Fraser Stoddart, from USA, who received Nobel Prize in 2016 in Chemistry, confirms his participation
With the prestigious event Indian Science Congress just a month away, its host Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University’s (RTMNU) machinery is completely engaged into related works. The 108th Indian Science Congress is being held between January 3 and 7, 2023. The main attraction is Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi who will be inaugurating the event and delivering main address. In its first achievement related to Science Congress, the University received the confirmation from one of the four Nobel laureates, whom RTMNU has planned to invite. Prof Fraser Stoddart, Department of Chemistry, Northwestern University, Evanston Illinois, USA has consented to attend Nagpur Congress. He received Nobel prize in 2016 in Chemistry. There are three other Nobel laureates whom the university has invited.
They include Sir Roger Penrose from University of Oxford, an English Mathematician who received Nobel prize in Physics in 2020; David Julius, University of California, New York, USA who got Nobel in Physiology or medicine. He was awarded Nobel Prize in 2021 jointly with Ardem Patapoutian. Third one is Prof John F Clauser (USA) who was awarded the 2022 Nobel Prize in Physics, jointly with Alain Aspect (France) and Anton Zeilinger (Australia). Prof Clauser is the fourth invitee. As the Congress is likely to witness presence of 18,000 to 20,000 people from various fields of Science, University has made separate arrangements for inauguration and exhibition for Science Congress. Fortunately, university has huge land and most of it encroached was released through litigations and with the help of Anoop Kumar, the then Acting Vice Chancellor. The present Collector Dr Vipin Itankar too has assured university administration of clearing the remaining encroachment. Main programme of inauguration will be held on the 10-acre land on the road between Guru Nanak Bhavan and RTMNU’s Jamnalal Bajaj Bhavan while the science exhibition is to be arranged on 12-acre land lies on the road towards campus.
ice Chancellor Dr Subhash Chaudhari told ‘The Hitavada’, “Indian Science Congress itself is helping us and most work is done at its level. Considering their experience we are receiving major help from them. We have constituted several committees who have been bestowed on various responsibilities.” Indian Science Congress will house Tribal Science congress, Science of communicators, science and society, farmers’ science congress, children science congress. All these components of congress will be inaugurated separately. There are two Local Secretaries of Indian Science Congress-- Dr G S Khadekar and Dr Rajesh Singh. Dr G S Khadekar explained, “We have arranged accommodation for these delegates in all 25 guest houses run by various agencies of Government, VIP arrangement has been made for 1,500 selected delegates. All 14 departments of Science of RTMNU are involved in organising the event. Our electricity supply is of !,000 KV so we requested MSEDCL to increase it to 3,000 which it did immediately. The technical procedure is underway.” Best 150-200 students from all over the country will come with their models. Every State will select three best students based on their model, from among their students. These selected students will get an opportunity to attend the Congress and put their models on display. Students, women can register The local organising committee of Indian Science Congress has appealed students, women to get register themselves regarding their participation in the Congress. Students in the age group of 10 to 17 can register for ISC. Women can register under women science congress. The website for the registration is www.isc2023.org

School children to be invited Dr Sanjay Dudhe, Pro-Vice Chancellor said, “We are inviting school children especially for the Science exhibition to be held on the 12-acre land. We may not be able to accommodate them in inauguration programme because of some constraints due to VIP presence. But we want students to visit the science exhibition which will be open from January 3 to January 7, 2022.
