The city-based and country’s reputed educational institute - VNIT is facing shortage of teaching and non teaching staff members as significant number of posts are lying vacant. As per the data provided by the Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT) Nagpur as on October 21, out of total 704 sanctioned posts, 291 posts are lying vacant in various categories.
Advocate Sangita Thul, who has recently obtained the figures under the Right to Information (RTI) on October 21, said in Group A (Teaching) category, the sanctioned strength is 335 posts, but the working strength is just 268 posts, leaving 67 posts vacant.
In the Group A (Non-Teaching) category, the sanctioned strength is 33 posts and working strength is 18 while 15 are vacant posts while in the Group B (Non-Teaching) category, the sanctioned strength is 143 posts but the working strength is 50 posts, leaving 93 posts vacant. Similarly, in the Group C (Non-Teaching) category, the sanctioned strength is 193 posts but working strength is 77, resulting in 116 vacant posts. Social worker Advocate Sangita Thul said that an institute of national repute and higher education like VNIT should not have so many posts vacant as it could hamper its working, efficiency and productivity. It could also lower the standard of education given to the students. The college authorities should immediately fill up these posts as there are many educated youth without jobs in the country, she added.
