IMPERSONATING as a customer care executive, a cyber crook siphoned off Rs 78,000 from two bank accounts of a woman after she gave her cellphone to her five-year-old son for playing online games.
A resident of Plot No 510, Madhav Nagari, Isasani, the victim, Mona Vijay Mudarle (30) told police that her five-year-old son was playing games on her smartphone around 1.10 pm on November 3.
After some time, she saw him speaking to a person who contacted from cell number 9339027576. She then took the phone from her son and spoke to the caller. Posing as a customer care executive of a cellular company, the caller told her that her son had downloaded AnyDesk App and asked her to send the link. After telling the caller that no customer care executive asks to forward such links, she disconnected the call. After sometime, she received two messages on her phone that Rs 70,000 and Rs 8,000 were debited from her accounts of HDFC Bank and State Bank of India respectively.
Following the victim’s complaint, MIDC Police registered a case under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 66(d) of Information Technology Act and started investigation.
