Nagpur’s very own Chandru Iyer appointed British Deputy High Commissioner at Bengaluru

Chandru Iyer, who grew up in Nagpur, has been appointed as the United Kingdom’s new Deputy High Commissioner for Karnataka and Kerala, based in Bengaluru, and Deputy Trade Commissioner, Investment, for South Asia. Born in Mumbai, Chandru Iyer grew up in Nagpur and later shifted to the UK. His father worked in the Reserve Bank of India, and mother in Gandhibagh branch of Punjab National Bank in Nagpur. He studied in Bishop Cotton School in Nagpur from 1984-1992, and later at St Francis De Sales Junior College. He earned his BE (Electronics) degree from Ramdeobaba College of Engineering, Nagpur. Later, did his MBA (Sales and Marketing) from a college under University of Pune. Chandru Iyer is better known as Nagpur’s very own People’s Ambassador in London, and also as one of the leading lights of Nagpur First activity. He has been visiting Nagpur.
 
He is Global Outreach Ambassador for Nagpur First, and is an active advocate of Nagpur’s growth. In his new capacity as Deputy High Commissioner for Karnataka and Kerala, based in Bengaluru, and Deputy Trade Commissioner, Investment, for South Asia, Chandru Iyer succeeds Anna Shotbolt, who served as Deputy High Commissioner at Bengaluru, from February 2022 until July 2022. Anna Shotbolt has moved to New Delhi to serve as Deputy Trade Commissioner for South Asia with responsibility for Trade Policy, Exports and Economics.
 
Iyer commenced his new role in November. Alex Ellis, British High Commissioner to India; and Alan Gemmell, British Deputy High Commissioner for Western India and His Majesty’s Trade Commissioner for South Asia; both welcomed Iyer to India Network. “After 15 years away I am delighted to be back in India to support greater trade and investment between our two countries and to help deepen our bilateral relationship. It is an honour to represent the United Kingdom in Karnataka and Kerala,” Iyer was quoted as saying, in an official press release issued by the British High Commission. Chandru Iyer’s mandate is to bolster the UK’s relations with the States of Karnataka and Kerala, deepening Government, business and people links. In addition, in his trade responsibilities, he will promote the UK as a preferred destination for foreign direct investment from India and the wider region. His cross border International business development experience will help further strengthen the strong relationship between the UK and South Asia.
