COURTESY their third successive win, Vidarbha eves went atop Group D of the BCCI-organised Women’s Under-19 One-Day Trophy. After posting victories over Goa and Arunachal Pradesh, Vidarbha girls thumped Pondicherry by 125 runs at SelaQui International School Ground, Dehradun on Saturday.
Riding on an unbeaten knock from the blade of in-form Sayali Shinde (104*; 132b, 8x4, 2x6) and decent contributions from the top order, Vidarbha made 256-4 in 50 overs. The bowlers, led by Pavya (10-6-21-5), who returned with a five-wicket haul, played their part restricting the rivals to 131-9.
Vidarbha opted to bat first. Before getting run out, Aarohi Bambode (15) added 29 with stumper Nihari (36) for the first wicket. Sayali and Nihari took the score to 101 when the latter departed. Sayali had a good partnership with another in-form player Ashwini (32) as the duo put on 77-ball 78 for the third wicket. Later, Tanvi Mendhe contributed 24 (24b) in 58-run union with Sayali. Shraddha Nabira remained not out on nine.
Pavya gave Pondicherry double blows removing both the openers in her first and second over. Pondicherry fought back through E Kavisha (32) and Raghavika (23) but once Trupti Lodhe (10-1-30-2) got rid of them, only Roshini R (43) showed some resistance. Shraddha chipped in with a wicket but once again in three matches, Vidarbha girls failed to bundle out the opponents.
