AN UNPRECEDENTED security blanket has been thrown across the Second Capital for Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi’s visit on Sunday. A day before the PM’s arrival, security agencies, including National Security Guards (NSG), Nagpur Police and its units, including Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) and Quick Response Teams (QRTs), carried out a full dress rehearsal for Modi’s programmes.
Senior officials from NSG, City Police, Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), Central and State Intelligence agencies reviewed the security arrangements on the routes to be taken by the PM’s cavalcade.
More than 4,000 police personnel were deployed in and around Nagpur Railway Station, Freedom Park of Nagpur Metro, Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport, Zero Point of Hinduhridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Samruddhi Mahamarg and All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), MIHAN.
The borders with Nagpur district were sealed on Saturday midnight till the departure of the PM after all his programmes scheduled on Sunday.
All the venues where the PM would visit were being sanitised to prevent any untoward incident. Additional security personnel were being deployed at AIIMS where Modi would address a public function.
Anti-Sabotage Squad, BDDS, and Anti-Drone Unit would also be positioned at the venues scheduled for PM’s visit.
A senior police official said that all arrangements were in place for the public to participate in the PM’s rally at AIIMS. Street patrolling was intensified and security was tightened at Nagpur, Ajni, Itwari, and Butibori railway stations, and bus terminus and sensitive areas. Police were checking all hotels and lodges. Security agencies brought some high-rise buildings near the venues under surveillance.
