French Consul General visits NMC, discusses Nag river plan

 

 

 

Consul General of France in Mumbai, Jean Marc SereCharlet, visited Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) Headquarters on Wednesday and held talks with Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Radhakrishnan B. The duo discussed the Nag River Rejuvenation Project of NMC, wherein civic body is keen to tap the France’s financial agency, Agence France de Development (AFD), to finance the said project.

Lionel Gomeric; representative of the Consul General of France; Abhay Tikekar, Superintending Engineer Manoj Talewar, Executive Engineer, Shweta Banerjee, NSSCDCL General Manager, Rajesh Dufare; Nag River Project Technical Advisor, Mohammad Israel; Smart City’s Dr Parag Armal and others also were present.

Municipal Commissioner shared information about Nagpur city and its history. Informing about the iconic Nag river, he said, the river flows through center of the city and is its glory. With the passage of time, the beauty of the river has been affected and is heavily polluted due to direct emptying of untreated sewage in the river. Therefore, NMC has taken the initiative for the revival of this river, he added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, recently, flagged off the conservation project of Nagpur river and NMC officials are tying up the loose ends to start process for appointment of agency to implement the project. The beautification of the river under the Nag River Rejuvenation Project was discussed in details as particularly for second phase, that of river front development, AFD has offered soft loan to the civic body. The entire project will be undertaken in two phases and pollution control is the priority task of the project. Apart from this, many innovative projects are planned for the city and in this work too, if technical support is provided by France, as to architecture and urban development planning, the city can benefit materially and financially, the Municipal Commissioner said.
