The administrative authorities of various agencies are gearing up for the prestigious G20 meeting scheduled to be held in the city in March 2023. As per the plans, Nagpur will be projected as ‘Tiger Capital of India’ and ‘Orange City’ around the period of the meeting.
Already, various agencies have started co-ordination in this regard. Some of the works to deck up certain parts of the city for the meet have started. The district administration, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT), Maha Metro, Public Works Department (PWD), National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), South Central Zone Cultural Centre (SCZCC), Directorate of Information and Public Relations, Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC), City Police, Airport Authority of India (AAI), and other agencies have put their heads together to finalise not only arrangements for the G20 meeting scheduled in city on March 21 and March 22, 2023, but also to devise a strategy for projecting Nagpur in the best possible manner before the delegates.
For the meeting, more than 200 delegates from 20 countries are expected to visit Nagpur. They may visit the places of historic, cultural importance and other tourist-interest places.
Considering this, the administration has started laying special emphasis on utilising different concepts to project Nagpur to the foreign delegates. More importantly, as was finalised in the recently held meeting, Nagpur will be projected as ‘Tiger Capital of India’ considering the number of tigers in forest areas in the region around Nagpur. MTDC is preparing plan in this regard. Further, the city’s identity as ‘Orange City’ will be given a boost. For the purpose, such hoardings will be put up at prominent locations. The G20 logo and motto will be publicised.
A special focus is on Civil Lines, Jamtha along Wardha Road, Laxmi Nagar, Ambazari, Futala, Deekshabhoomi, Sitabuldi, Nagpur airport etc. Accordingly, footpaths are being cleaned up and beautified with the help of private organisations and real estate companies. The roads are being repaired, squares/roundabouts are being beautified.
To welcome the delegates, the district administration will put in place a reception counter at the airport and also constitute committees for reception of delegates as well as for their transport. Liaison Officers are to be appointed for the guests. Rooms are to be booked in adequate numbers in some of the hotels, particularly the two hotels along Wardha Road including one outside the city limits. Security also will be beefed up at the locations where the meeting will be held, delegates will be staying, and routes of the movement of the delegates.
