Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) will develop a new cricket stadium and an academy in South Nagpur. The issue was discussed in detail and the site was finalised in the meeting of Board of Trustees, on Thursday.
A five to six acre land is available with NIT beyond the Octroi post at Dighori on Umrer Road. The land will be utilised for developing a mini cricket stadium, said the officials.
As per the plan, the stadium will not be a full-fledged one. Rather, it will be a facility with a practice pitch for upcoming players. Since cricket is the most popular game in the country, a practice pitch and small arena can take shape of an academy. For the budding players, the facility can prove very useful. The proposal was accepted by the Board of Trustees. The meeting was chaired by Manoj Kumar Suryawanshi, Chairperson, NIT.
Mohan Mate, MLA, Sandeep Itkelwar, both Trustees; along with District Collector Dr Vipin Itankar; Supriya Thool, Joint Director, Town Planning, also were present in the meeting.
Another important proposal that was on the agenda was that of developing facility for pets. The plan is that in case a citizen wants to leave for outstation, they face problem of safe keeping of their pets. For the same, NIT has come forward with a plan to have a facility spread over 2,000 to 4,000 sq.ft, more like parking plaza.
The Board asked for scouting the land for establishing the facility that is much needed today as population of pets in the city has grown substantially.
Similarly, another new plan that was discussed in the meeting was about establishing an acupressure facility. For the same, about 4,000 to 5,000 sq.ft land is being identified by NIT so that citizens can relax there. Not much fund is required for the above two proposals. As to acupressure the facility can come handy for senior citizens.
Another proposal that was discussed was about auctioning shops located on Central Bazar Road on a 30-year lease. These shops are on land of Dr Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth, opp. Hotel Tuli Imperial. NIT will hold an auction and first preference will be given to current lease holders and in case they are ready to pay the bid amount they can continue with their business. In case the current lease holders are outbid then they will have to vacate the premises. The plan also was okayed by the Board.
M/s Studio One-Khalatkar Construction Consortium was let off with warning for printing invitation cards for light and sound show at Futala Lake without permission from NIT. The matter was raised by Vikas Thakre, MLA and Trustee, and hence a show cause was issued to the firm that has developed the musical foundation in joint venture.
The NIT censured the act of its operator to by-pass the agency and printing and distributing the invitation cards for the show. The agency explanation was rejected and it was warned that next time such mistake should not recur.
The NIT Board also sanctioned a sum of Rs 3.71 crore for construction of an art gallery-cum-library in memory of Sant Jagnade Maharaj on Khasra No. 572, 324/1.
