FROM her political digs at opposition to her witty Twitter posts, from dealing the trolls to passionately pursuing her singing, Amruta Fadnavis was grilled in the Moot Court by Abhivyakti on Tuesday. And the banker, singer, social activist, wife of a successful politician answered every query with a poise, giving a sneak peek into her happening life.
The session organised by Abhivyakti at Sai Sabhagruha brought out the best of Amruta Fadnavis and evoked floods of laughter on her witty responses. The Court had questions on everything, Amruta Fadnavis hitting headlines for comments on politics, to trolls, to Twitter posts filled with humour and wit. It delved into Amruta’s life, which is more than being a wife to the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis.
Trolled for her outspokenness, Fadnavis maintained the same level of decorum as she spoke of the many incidences, her choices and role had been reduced to flame political interests.
Accused of commenting on matters of politics to benefit the interests of her husband’s party, Amruta responded with a bold and clear message, “I have my own opinions and thoughts. People very often mistake my words to be Devendra’s thoughts. However, that is not the case. I was always opinionated, competitive and outspoken regardless of my association with Devendra.” Responding to her current endeavors as a singer and a social worker she said, “I am fueled by my passion to sing, but now my interests are aligned with Devendra’s. Involving myself in his work is divine. Helping others gives me happiness.”
Asked about nit-picking Aditya Thackeray, MLA, as a ‘Reshmi Kida’ on social media, she justified it as a fitting response to his dig at her husband Devendra and said, “My husband is a self-made man, he has worked hard all along the way. Whereas, Aditya was born into it.”
Speaking candidly about her experiences, Amruta emerged as not guilty in all the accusations held against her except one: The Judge held her guilty for her brief disconnect with Nagpur city. Amruta very humbly and sweetly promised to continue her work and extend support to organisations dedicated to social work.
Asked about her statement on prostitution to be legalised, Fadnavis said, “If places like these exists, they should be recognised legally and accepted socially. There should be a legal framework in place.”
The session brought to people the woman behind the title of ‘wife to the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra’. Amruta Fadnavis is both dedicated to her pursuits and confident in her conduct. The programme was a delight to the audience. But whether guilty or not, the Moot Court in all its effort did more than elicit laughter, wit or humour. It was a critic of the society that finds it hard to accept opinionated women. Abhivyakti in an effort to uplift women’s position in the society yet again put up an inspiring show for the Nagpur audience. The moot court was conducted by Kumkum Sirpurkar as Judge, Rashmi Madankar as clerk, and Ajey Gampawar as lawyer.
Supriya Iyer, President, Abhivyakti; Hema Nagpurkar, Vice president, Abhivyakti; Nalini Khedekar, Secretary, were prominently present at the event. Rupesh Pawar, Rutuja Wankhade, Akshay Khobragade, Jitendra Pawar worked hard for the success of the event. The programme proceedings were conducted by Swati Surangalikar.
