Neelam Gorhe, Deputy Chairperson of Legislative Council, on Thursday, directed the State Government to constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe rape allegations against Rahul Shewale, Member of Parliament (MP) of CM Eknath Shinde-led Balasahebanchi Shiv Sena.
On this, Deputy Chief Minister (DyCM) Devendra Fadnavis assured the House that he would study the instruction issued by the Deputy Chairperson and the allegations against MP Shewale. The implications of MP Shewale’s demand in Lok Sabha of investigation into death case of Disha Salian, the former Manager of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput, were seen in the Council after Question Hour. The treasury benches raised the issue of Disha Salian death case and demanded a probe by SIT.
BJP MLC Pravin Darekar sought time to speak on the issue. However, Deputy Chairperson Gorhe denied him the permission. As Darekar tried to raise the issue in the Council, Deputy Chairperson Gorhe rejected his point of information saying, “The Lok Sabha issue cannot be discussed in this House. I am not allowing such unimportant issues to be discussed here.” The Deputy Chairperson’s comments irked the BJP legislators who resorted to raising slogans. They demanded that an SIT be formed to probe into the matter. As a result, Gorhe adjourned the House for five minutes.
When the House resumed, the Deputy Chairperson asked Transport Minister Shambhuraje Desai to speak on the Bill. But, the ruling party members stormed into the well, and raised demand for the SIT. The Opposition was equally noisy demanding SIT against Shewale. Amid chaos, Gorhe adjourned the House for an hour. When the House resumed, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and MLC Anil Parab raised the issue under point of information. Parab said, “The MP had raped the woman and she wants to lodge a complaint against him.” Parab’s demand created uproar among the members of treasury benches and they started shouting for SIT. Taking note of Parab’s demand, the Deputy Chairperson announced that she was issuing instructions to the State Government to constitute a SIT to investigate the allegations.
The BJP members created uproar in the House over the announcement and again stormed into the well.
Gorhe then adjourned the House for an hour. When the House resumed again, the ruling party members again created ruckus in the House raising the demand. The House was again adjourned for 15 minutes.
Shiv Sena (UBT) MLC Manisha Kayande alleged in the House that, MP Shewale had raped the woman and the case was not registered by Mumbai Police. “The victim is living in Dubai and she is not allowed to come to Mumbai,” she said. Later, DyCM Fadnavis said that, he would check the instructions and information regarding the issue.
House adjourned over Padalkar’s remarks
The Council was adjourned after Calling Attention after BJP legislator Gopichand Padalkar allegedly made some objectionable remarks against Shiv Sena (UBT) legislators. The remarks created uproar in the Opposition benches. Soon the Opposition was in the well demanding action against MLC Padalkar.
The House was adjourned for 15 minutes. Later, Ruling and Opposition members met Deputy Chairperson Neelam Gorhe in her chamber and discussed the matter. When the House assembled, DyCM Fadnavis said that, he would speak to Padalkar and tell him not to use such language.
