SIX villagers working in a Chhui mine died and a few other labourers were injured after the walls of the mine caved in suddenly on Friday noon. The incident occurred at Malgaon village falling under Nagarnar police station limits. The deceased have been identified as Dashmati, Kamli, Shanti, Kumari, Sayyto, and Sarpanch’s elder brother Rameshwar. The injured villagers were sent to the hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, other sources said that seven people were killed in the incident. As per information, on Friday afternoon, villagers were engaged in excavating chhui (soil used in painting houses) in mines.
While villagers were busy with their work, the roof of the mine caved in all of a sudden and fell on them.
The incident triggered panic among villagers and the matter was informed to police and higher authorities and subsequently, the rescue operation was launched. Six villagers died and many villagers were injured in the incident.
Information about other villagers has been sought from the villagers present on the spot as it is not possible to estimate how many more villagers are buried inside. Injured villagers have been sent to the hospital in 108 Sanjeevani Express.
City Superintendent of Police Vikas Kumar confirmed the incident and said that villagers were excavating chhui when they got buried under the mine.
