“The House (Legislative Assembly) is supreme. It is centre of our democracy and an important forum to resolve the issues of common man. We respect democracy and have tried to do justice to all pending issues of all regions of State,” stated Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis while talking to journalists during the customary media interaction at Vidhan Bhavan after the winter session was prorogued on Friday evening.
As for the fruitfulness of the two-week session of the State Legislature, Fadnavis, as a person hailing from Vidarbha, thanked Chief Minister Eknath Shinde for giving justice to Vidarbha in real sense.
Without naming former Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Fadnavis said that the former’s presence in House was all but 46 minutes during the two-week winter session. “People who were very worried about threat to democracy after our Government came to power and who spoke, day and night, about saving democracy, stand exposed now,” Fadnavis remarked.
Referring to comments of Uddhav Thackeray after Eknath Shinde’s rebellion, Fadnavis said that there were threats to burn down Mumbai. Many more things were said in those days, but everything fizzled out as people applauded Shinde’s step, he said describing Thackeray’s step to join hands with Congress-NCP as ‘straying away from Hindutva’.
Replying to a querry, Fadnavis said that Chief Minister Shinde was satisfied with the outcome of winter session, “as our Government was able to fulfill expectations of people of the region in terms of addressing problem of removal of backlog.” Ultimately people want results and the State Government have effectively performed in six months wherein investment proposals of Rs. 70,000 crore have been cleared, Fadnavis said adding that the issues of irrigation and development were also resolved, more of Vidarbha Region in particular.
To a querry, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde defended his reply in House to last week’s resolution saying ultimately they needed to clear the air as wild allegations were being levelled against their group of legislators. “The Opposition raked-up non issues in a bid to defame us but fell flat on their face. At one point, it seemed that the Opposition was more interested in scoring brownie points and hence raised issue outside the House and shied away from speaking on the floor of House,” he said. Replying to another question on slew of SITs and the investigations , Shinde said the Government does not believe in witch hunt but will find out the truth.
Deputy Chief Minister Fadnavis defended the bonus announcement for paddy saying that the decision of direct credit to account introduced by State Government is going to ensure maximum benefit to farmers. This will stop exploitation of the system by businessmen who used to bring paddy from neighbouring Chhattisgarh and claim the bonus.
