Eknath Shinde, Chief Minister, and Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister, took a ‘test-ride’ on Nagpur-Shirdi stretch of the Hinduhridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Samruddhi Mahamarg on Sunday. They drove the vehicle on this 520-km stretch, which will be dedicated to public on December 11 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“With the Prime Minister dedicating Nagpur-Shirdi stretch to public on December 11, ease of connectivity between Nagpur and Shirdi will be available to people. The 701-km Samruddhi Mahamarg project will prove to be a game-changer not only for Maharashtra but also for the counrty,” said Eknath Shinde, while interacting with mediapersons before the ‘test-ride’ on the expressway on Sunday. Devendra Fadnavis and Eknath Shinde drove the official vehicle, starting Nagpur-Shirdi journey on the expressway from village Shivmadka in Hingna tehsil of Nagpur district.
Addressing the mediapersons at the site, Shinde said that the ambitious project was conceptualised when Devendra Fadnavis was Chief Minister of Maharashtra. “I am especially happy inspecting the expressway with Fadnavis. The expressway will reduce the travel time between Nagpur and Mumbai once the 701-km project work is complete. Now, Nagpur-Shirdi 520-km stretch will make possible faster transport, which will help farmers, and also connect several districts,” he added.
Replying to a question, the former Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray group) leader said, “The Samruddhi Mahamarg is named after Balasaheb Thackeray. The joy of travelling on the path shown by Balasaheb, and the expressway named after him, is something very special for me.” Asked if his Government in State would work with the pace, he remarked that the Government was already taking decisions fast. Also, he said, the Government was working to ensure justice for all.
During Nagpur-Shirdi drive, Shinde and Fadnavis were welcomed at various places including those in Nagpur, Wardha, Amravati, Washim, and Buldhana districts. They were accompanied by Radheshyam Mopalwar, Managing Director, Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC); Anil Gaikwad, Joint Managing Director. At Virul toll plaza in Wardha district, the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister were welcomed by Rahul Kardile, District Collector, and Nurool Hasan, Superintendent of Police. Pratap Adsad, MLA; Ibrahim Chaudhary, Sub-Divisional Officer; and Purushottam Bhusari welcomed Shinde and Fadnavis at Dhamangaon Railway in Amravati district.
Rajendra Patni, MLA; Dilip Pandharpatte, Divisional Commissioner of Amravati; Vasumana Pant, Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Parishad; Bachchan Singh, Superintendent of Police, welcomed the convoy at Warangi in Malegaon tehsil of Washim district. Prataprao Jadhav, Member of Parliament; Akash Phundkar and Sanjay Raimulkar, legislators; Bhagyashree Vispute, Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Parishad, welcomed the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister at Mehkar inter-change in Buldhana district. Earlier, Eknath Shinde arrived at Nagpur airport. Later, Shinde and Fadnavis proceeded to the residence of Krupal Tumane, MP to congratulate Tumane on his nephew’s wedding.
