TAMIL Nadu Police, Chennai emerged champions in the Majju Seth All India Football Tournament that concluded at Military ground in Kamptee on Saturday. In the annual event organised by United Football Welfare Association, TN Police recorded a comprehensive 3-1 win over Punjab Police.
Ganeshan gave TN an early lead scoring first goal in 18th minute of play. Paramjeet Singh brought Punjab Police back making it one all in just three minutes. In 36th minute, Jagadesh restored lead and the score remained 2-1 at the half time. In the dying minutes of play (90th), Tamil Nadu Police’s Gynanaprasanth added one more to seal the deal.
The winners pocketed a cash prize of Rs 1,51,000 while the runners-up took home Rs 1,01,100.
TN’s goalkeeper Selewan Kumar was declared Best Player of the Final. Best Defender award went to Vijayan also of Tamil Nadu Police. Punjab’s Paramjeet won the Best Half award. For being Best Player of the Tournament and top scorer, Young Muslim Football Club’s Sayiad Umair got a gold medal and the golden boot.
President MP Congress Committee Dr Haji Anees Ahmad was chief guest of the prize distribution function.

Organising Committee’s Mahmood Akhtar, ex-India player Israr Kamal, Mohammad Israil, Nasir Jamal, Tabeez Junaidi, Shyamal Ghosh, Inamur Rahim, Mohammad Asif and Akhtar Jamal, who worked hard for the event, were also prominently present on the occasion.
