THE Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) and other officials recently visited the Miyawaki Forest Project at Butibori MIDC. The team was led by Nandini Naranware, Divisional Forest Officer and accompanied by Pramod Wade, Range Forest Officer. The officials were briefed about the Miyawaki project sponsored by Butibori Manufacturers Association (BMA), MIDC and supported by Calderys India. The project planted a total of 5,400 saplings in an open plot of 1,800 square meters using the Miyawaki technique. This technology is proven and successful regardless of soil and climate. DFO Naranware appreciated the efforts of BMA to reduce the carbon footprint in Butibori Industrial Area through this project. The Forest Department had made available various types of saplings required for the project at reasonable rates.
Sanjay Nagulwar, Project Director (Concept, Procurement & Execution) and Dr Shruti Goel, Project Coordinator executed the work. The forest officers appreciated the work of both and appealed all to come forward and use their unused barren land to create a Miyawaki forest. “This will not only help in reducing pollution levels but will also help in carbon sequestration,” said Naranware. This plantation is 30 times denser than a normal tree plantation and grows 10 times faster. Earlier, Sanjay Nagulwar had been facilitated by Dr P Albangan, CEO MIDC for this project. Pradeep Khandelwal, BMA President, Shashikant Kotharkar, Honorary Secretary, Nitin Lonakar, IPP, Tiwari, Managing Director of Reliance Power, Director of Innovative Textiles Limited and Executive Council Members of BMA were present on the occasion.
