Short circuit in electric panel of Danapur-Secunderabad Express spreads panic among passengers

Travellers in Secunderabad-bound Danapur-Secunderabad Express got scared after suspected short circuit in electric panel triggered smoke in one of the coaches. The train, 12792 Danapur-Secunderabad Express, was crossing Betul station when the passengers panicked on noticing smoke in the running train. Immediately, showing presence of mind, a passenger pulled the emergency chain brining the train to a halt in the mid section. The passengers of D-1 coach notified the train staff about the smoke that was traced to panel in the coach. Keeping in mind the safety of travellers, passengers of the coach were accommodated in other coaches. Power supply to the affected coach was snapped as a precautionary measure. The incident had occurred around 7.30 am.
The train was detained near Betul for half an hour as passengers were accommodated temporarily in other coaches. The train’s general coaches were jam-packed, mostly with labourers returning from native place. The train reached Nagpur quite late where the affected coach was examined by a joint team of supervisory officials of Electrical, Commercial and Mechanical Branch. As per reports, two eye-witness they noticed the smoke emanating from ceiling above the door and informed the other travellers and thereafter they pulled the chain. The affected coach was detached from the rake and new coach was attached. The train left for its onward journey to Secunderabad around 2 pm from Nagpur Railway Station.
