Seeking to plug the gap in the door-to-door garbage collection, Nagpur Smart and Sustainable City Development Corporation (NSSCDCL), approved QR code system. The project was rolled out on pilot basis and encouraging feedback prompted officials and city leaders to rollout the system in entire city. At a meeting of Board of Director, the proposal was approved unanimously.

The issue of gaps in garbage collection rocked every general body meeting of NMC. So much so that, NMC even set-up an inquiry committee and finally they recommended termination of contract of two agencies, M/s BVG India and M/s AG Enviro Pvt Ltd, on grounds of violation of agreement. Though three months time was granted to two groups to show improvement. In light of that, NMC through NSSCDCL will affix QR codes at all homes and during daily round the same would be scanned by collector and same is going to be recorded.

This would ensure better monitoring and also cross check in case of complaints of non lifting of garbage. The meeting was held on-line and attended among others by NSSCDCL Mentor Dr Sanjay Mukherjee, Mayor Dayashankar Tiwari, Chairperson, Standing Committee, NMC, Prakash Bhoyar, Ruling Party Leader Avinash Thakre, Municipal Commissioner Radhakrishnan B, Smart City CEO Buvaneswari S, and members Jitendra Ghodeshwar, Mangala Gharat and Shenwai. The QR based system is based on Information Technology and will start with two zones in first phase. Each house will be geo-tagged and an independent agency will be tasked with monitoring of QR scanning process. The two companies after taking over the door to door garbage collection are facing several hiccups and hence invited ire of public representatives. Now the two companies are introducing smaller vehicles that can move in small lanes so that no houses are left out of garbage collection drive.
