District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Durg has launched a special campaign to publicise various schemes of National Legal Services Authority (NALSA). The special awareness campaign was launched as per the directives issued by the District Judge/Chairman of DLSA, Rajesh Shrivastava. With co-ordination of the Education Department, Additional District Judge Anand Prakash Variyal gave information to the school children regarding child abuse by connecting with them virtually. Addressing the students, judicial officer Variyal stated that in our culture we believe that god resides in the heart of the children but in the present scenario sexual offences against the children have surfaced in large number and it is called as child abuse.
Variyal informed the students that taking objectionable pictures of any child, carrying offensive photographs of children, downloading them or distributing them is an offence and they all comes under the purview of child abuse. He informed the students that in most of the cases, child avoids talking about the abuse as he is made to believe that it is his mistake and the person exploiting the child succeeds in his intent. The judicial officer further informed the students that in our country being vocal on sexual related topics is considered shameful and offensive and this is the reason children abstain from telling their parents about the sexual abuse they underwent, adding further that there is a dire need for creating awareness over the issue. He also detailed on Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and other laws framed for protecting the children and punishing the offenders.
