REGULAR middle-distance runners Prajakta Godbole and Bhavyashree Mahalle emerged champions in the 5km and 3km competitive runs respectively of the first-ever mother-daughter marathon organised by Nagpur district administration on Sunday. The marathon, that were held in three different categories including a 2km ‘run for fun’ with a message of ‘Break The Bias’ was attended by close to 35,000 runners, the organisers claimed. The races started and culminated at the iconic Kasturchand Park. Prajakta Godbole was closely followed by Nikita Raut, Prachi Godbole, Mitali Bhoyar and finished from second to fourth in that order in the 5km race. In the 3km run, Bhavyashree Mahalle ensured that she stayed ahead of Riya Dohtare, Sanjana Joshi and Chaitali Borkar who crossed the line after her in that order. In the 2km run open to all, tiny tots from age four to senior citizens in their seventies took part in the run to underline women empowerment and equality between men and women.

 

At the outset, Guardian Minister Dr Nitin Raut, Sports Minister Sunil Kedar, Zilla Parishad President Rashmi Barve, MP Vikas Mahatme, ex-minister Satish Chaturvedi, Organising Committee Head and Nagpur Collector R Vimala and others flagged off various runs. After addressing the gathering Dr Raut and Kedar honoured R Vimala for the success of the mega event that was organised at a very short notice. International boxer Alfiya Pathan, international cricketer and Vidarbha skipper Komal Zanzad, four-year-old runner Arya Takone and smallest women Jyoti Amge were the star attraction. Renuka Deshkar conducted the proceedings. RESULTS (Top Ten) 5km: Prajakta Godbole, Nikita Raut, Prachi Godbole, Mitali Bhoyar, Snehal Joshi, Swati Bunchbudhe, Madhura Pahade, Pranali Borkar, Prajakta Malkhede, Swarali Thakare. 3km: Bhavyashree Mahalle, Riya Dohtare, Sanjana Joshi, Chaitali Borkar, Aastha Nimbarte, Sushma Rahangdale, Aakanksha Sodiya, Rita Tarare, Anjali Madavi, Vidita Meshram. 2km: Umadevi Chaudhary, Aafreen Bano, Dimple Naidu, Kiran Mandale, Bipasha Meshram, Fehmida Yusuf, Muskan Rai, Mehul Kothe, Vijayanti Raut, Shruti Kangale. Mahila Bachat Gat: Nutan Chaudhary, Puja Deshpande, Mama Rodge, Lalita Gajbhe, Shahnaz Kazi, Rajni, Vandana Barande, Malu Shende, Mubashera Niyaaz.
