TOP seed in boys category Aarav Bele and Vritika Shah emerged champions in the MSLTA-NHDTA Maharashtra State Ranking Under-10 Tennis Tournament for boys and girls that concluded on Sunday.
Aarav got the better of second seed Taksheel Naagar to win title while Vritika, who stunned the top seed Shuchita in straight sets in the semis on Saturday, defeated Anaisha Shori for the crown.
The boys final was entertaining as both friends from Pune, who have met thrice before in summit clashes, were relentless in their power game. Aarav finally took the winner’s trophy by beating Taksheel in straight sets 4-2, 4-3 (7-3) in the tie-breaker. In the girls finals, Vritika from Mumbai beat Anaisha in straight sets 4-2,
4-2. Earlier in the semi-finals, Aarav easily beat his opponent Pranav Gaikwad 6-2 while Taksheel beat Vihar Sonawae (seed 5) 6-3 to set up a final between the best two. The small crowd enjoyed thoroughly as the young players displayed their talent and potential.
In the prize distribution function that followed, Vice-President NDHTA Ashok Bhiwapurkar and Joint Secretary Vikram Naidu gave away the prizes to the winners and the runners-up. Tournament Supervisor Vishal Landge meticulously conducted the tournament under the guidance of Tournament Director Dr Sudhir Bhiwapurkar and Tournament Secretary Vijay Naidu.
