IIM Nagpur to be first to introduce Life Mgmt Centre to counter burnout among top honchos

“As Indian economy shines at global level, the talent pool in country is witnessing terrific growth with rising demand in the corporate world. However, the growth story has a flip side too and it has become an issue of concern. There has been increasing incidences of burnout, tragedies at young age among top honchos. To address these concerns, Indian Institute of Management, Nagpur, is planning to introduce Life Management Centre. IIM-N is first in the country to design such a programme for which it is tying up with John Hopkins University, USA, Kaveri Hospital, Chennai, and Clever,” said Dr Bhimaraya Metri, Director, IIM, Nagpur, during media interaction at the institute’s new campus at MIHAN, on Thursday. “The courses at IIM-N are aimed at inculcating a holistic view of one’s life wherein stress would be on physical and mental well-being in the competitive age of today,” said Dr Metri.
Responding to a question about countering brain-drain issue faced by the country since long, Dr Metri said, the indirect benefit of Life Management programme will counter it. Now, at the young age of 35-40 years, Indians are holding important positions in Board of prominent companies. But the pressure to deliver often leads to ruining of lifestyle and this is often best with health issues that are increasing setting a worrisome trends.
Dr Metri informed the media that short capsule courses would be devised to provide roadmap to executives on leading a healthy and mentally stable life without compromising on corporate results.
“Today’s world is driven by ambition and speed, however, if proper checks and balances are not in place, the results often end up on a sad note. Such burning out at young age is not all advisable, from point of view of company and also for Indian economy. One needs to adjust to pressure in the corporate world and our trainers would provide tips on reorientation, taking in view the needs of markets and companies,” expressed Dr Metri.
“IIM, Nagpur, is a unique place as it is embedded in one of the biggest industrial estate which enables us to leverage our position and offer various tailor-made courses for company’s executive to sharpen their skills,” added Dr Metri.
Earlier, mediapersons were take on tour of the vast campus of the institute wherein new construction techniques are incorporated to counter effects of heat. For it, clayton tiles are used in external facade that has created 50 mm gap to help reduce internal temperature. Double glass unit are used in external facade with combination of tiles to counter summer heat.
To a question, C P Gurnani said, the institute is going to immensely benefit Nagpur in particular and Vidarbha in general as they would step up help create talent pool of start-ups and spur innovation.
The Second Capital of Maharashtra would become a logistic hub of country, the tie-up with local agrarian scientist would help sort out management issues in relation to crop. Further, collaboration with local government bodies would help to take a lead in food logistics and give thrust to R&D from management point of view.
