The VIA Taxation & Corporate Law Forum conducted an interactive meet with State GST officers on ‘Maharashtra Amnesty Scheme 2022’. (The Maharashtra Settlement of Arrears of Tax, Interest, Penalty or Late Fee Act, 2022) on Tuesday at VIA Auditorium.
On the occasion, Anantha Rakh, Additional Commissioner, State GST, Nagpur Division, who was the chief guest of the event, spoke about the objective of the scheme which the Government has come out with the most liberal and lucrative amnesty scheme for various taxes levied by State Government before the introduction of Goods and Services Tax (GST).
The scheme is brought in as an act named as Maharashtra Settlement of Arrears of Tax, Interest, Penalty or Late Fee Act, 2022. He emphasized the taxpayers to take full benefit of the scheme. “The amnesty scheme will provide a big relief to trade and industry. Taxpayers will have an opportunity to avail the scheme and close all pending disputes of pre-GST era, mainly under VAT and CST,” he added.
Guest of honour V D Kamthewad, Joint Commissioner (ADM), State GST, Nagpur, said that taxpayers, consultants should come forward and avail the waivers given in the Scheme at the earliest possible. Sunil V Lahane, Dy Commissioner, State GST, Nagpur informed that the scheme shall apply to all pending dues under specified State legislations for the period upto June 30, 2017, i.e., before the introduction of GST.
Earlier, Suresh Rathi, President – VIA welcomed the guest speakers. CA Sachin Jajodia, Convener - VIA Taxation & Corporate Law Forum made an opening remark and CA Naresh Jakhotia, Treasurer – VIA summed up the session and proposed a vote of thanks.
