Ordnance Factory Khamaria (OFK) is all set to deliver the state-of-art ammunition ‘Shivalik’ multi-mode hand grenade to the Indian Army. The indigenously developed ammunition has accomplished all the technical clearances and its maiden consignment of around 5,000 units will be dispatched to the users soon. This grenade is one of the ambitious products to get bulk order upto 10 lakh for OFK. OFK General Manager, S K Sinha (IOFS), talking to ‘The Hitavada’, confirmed that after an intensive research and development for years, this new defence product
multi-mode hand grenade designed by Terminal Ballistic Research Laboratory (TBRL) has been developed to fulfil the requirements of the security forces. The first lot of the indigenous weapon will be soon handed over to the Indian Army. GM Sinha added that currently they have a target of supplying 1 lakh units of multi-mode grenade. Thereafter, lifecycle of the product will be evaluated and accordingly, the OFK will be given bulk order of upto 10 lakh units. Sources informed that it is for the first time in the country that any hand-grenade with offensive and defence modes has met 99.8 per cent accuracy in field trials. The production of 40-year-old hand grenades was stopped some years back at OFK due to some technical snags. Shivalik multi-mode hand grenade will provide enhanced fire power to the Indian Armed Forces during war and anti-terrorism operations. It is expected that the annual requirement of this product will be around 10 lakh in the Armed forces.
