MOHIT Kale’s maiden double century and Yash Kadam’s hundred put Vidarbha in driver’s seat against Railways in their Col CK Nayudu Trophy (U-25) match at DVR Ground in Mulapadu on Wednesday.
Kale (226; 349b, 24x4, 1x6) and Kadam’s (169; 248, 12x4, 4x4) put on a huge 266 runs partnership for the fourth wicket and skipper Siddhesh Wath added a quickfire 78 from 65 balls hitting three fours and four sixes to take the side to a mammoth 628-8 in 156.5 overs before declaring the first innings.
By end of the second day, Railways were 31-1 in 15 overs. In-form left-arm spinner Harsh Dubey gave the team an early opening.
Overnight centurion Kale and Kadam, carried on from where they had left the previous evening and dominated the Railways bowlers with utmost ease.
The left-right combination frustrated the opposition bowlers as the batsmen kept on rotating the strike. After a careful start, the duo changed gears when it mattered. After Kale’s dismissal at 495, Wath and Kadam added 104 runs in just 16 overs to take the score to 599.
The batsmen have done their job and for Vidarbha to complete a bonus-point victory, the bowlers will have to come to the party. They have enough time to bowl out the rivals twice in two full days.
