Kovind to MIHAN

Staff Reporter
When President of India Ram Nath Kovind arrives in the city on April 23, he would get a first-hand experience of what the city has been experiencing for the last two decades -- the gross failure called the Multimodal International Hub At Nagpur (MIHAN). It won’t take long for the President to realise that the project was a big dream gone awry. The moment Ram Nath Kovind takes a left turn from Wardha Road and climbs the bridge entering MIHAN, he would be welcomed by a pathetic surface passed as road by the authorities (See accompanying picture). It is a sad reality but the President’s visit may move things and give the city its deserving due.
President Kovind is scheduled to arrive in Nagpur for a function hosted by Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Nagpur on April 23.
Of course, this prestigious institute is not at fault for the bad infrastructure that will be welcoming the President to MIHAN. It is supposed to be taken care of by Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC).
This report may act as a wake-up call for the MADC and the agency might take a correction course to repair the
road but the fact remains that it will be a cover-up job to please the dignitary. Before the actual repair takes place the road will continue to be a nightmare for every vehicle entering MIHAN.
The roads inside MIHAN, too, are not very good. The front road may get repaired in the wake of visit of the President but the other roads are likely to remain in bad condition for years to come, if one goes by the pace at which things move in this project.
Starting from the bridge, all roads in MIHAN are in bad shape except the main road inside the hub, in front of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) company and the one that goes towards Air India MRO.
The roads going towards Tech Mahindra, towards AIIMS, IIM, towards Lupin, the only big name in the industry that is functioning in MIHAN from Day One, the one going towards DRAL are simply passed off as roads. The roads are damaged to such an extent that one would find journey on small pathways in villages more comfortable.
Responsibility of providing quality infrastructural facilities like roads, electricity, water etc to the companies in MIHAN is bestowed upon MADC. Unfortunately, it has failed in it that too miserably.
The city is now pinning the hopes on the President’s visit to see a change.
