Gelatin sticks case: Copssaid they were crackers

The report about finding of 54 live gelatin sticks at Nagpur Railway station turned out to sticks akin to crackers that are commonly used for training purposes of defence personnel. Officials post investigation came to conclusion that the sticks did not had any potential of explosion.

Superintendent of Police (SP) M Rajkumar of Government Railway Police (GRP) said that prime facie, the sticks appeared similar to gelatin sticks and hence the cops initially got confused. The gelatin stick are normally used for low-intensity blasts in mines or industries. An offence under Section 4 of Indian Explosives Act was registered by GRP Nagpur. During investigation, the police reached the manufacturer of the sticks who told the police that these are the small crackers like sticks used for training of personnel, he said. However, the police are yet to identify the person who forgot the bag near the traffic police booth at Nagpur Railway station.

“We have checked CCTV footage of Monday but no one was seen leaving the bag near

the booth. The bag might have been left two to three days before as marks of bite by rat were visible on the bag,"” the SP said.

An unclaimed bag found at the railway station on Monday night had trigged sensation. The bag was found at around 7.30 pm after which sniffed and Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) was summoned by the GRP. The bag was taken to the Nagpur Police Headquarters where it was later diffused late in night.
