Half of Bhopal faced water shortage even on the fifth day as water supply did not reach many areas on Monday as well. At the same time, in the areas where it was supplied, the water was neither fit for drinking nor for domestic use. In many places, insects were found swimming in dirty water. In such a situation, the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) is supplying water through tankers. Here, private tankers have increased the rates up to five times. The tanker which was earlier available for Rs 300 to 500, now its rates have gone up to Rs 2,000 to 2,500. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has summoned a report from BMC Commissioner KVS Chaudhary Kolsani on the non-supply of water in the city. MLA Arif Masood has also raised questions. The planning of the Bhopal Municipal Corporation to start water supply through the new Kolar pipeline failed in about 60 per cent of the city. After reprimanding from Minister incharge Bhupendra Singh, Member of Parliament Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, the corporation started water supply on Sunday night, but another big problem arose in front of the 12 lakh population waiting for water for four days. Taps spewed dirty water instead of clean. So it was of no use.
MLA Masood raises question: MLA Arif Masood has raised questions on the deteriorating water supply system in the city. At the same time, the issue of asphaltization of roads, cleaning of drains was also raised and said that the entire BMC system has gone haywire. He demanded action against Superintending Engineer A K Panwar. The MLA asked as why Panwar was being given extension again and again, it should be investigated. The Government should take the matter seriously, because lakhs of people are craving water for the last five days. Neither tanks nor tankers were kept in public places. The work of connecting the line was done without planning. Because of which people are suffering.
BMC Commissioner will report in Chief Minister’s Office: CM Chouhan asked Commissioner Kolsani to immediately ensure necessary arrangements for smooth drinking water distribution in Bhopal city. Clean drinking water should be provided as soon as the sanitation and improvement work related to the pipeline is completed. Along with this, through the media, make the public aware of the water management and other alternative arrangements for the citizens in the colonies through tankers. The common man should not have problem of drinking water. CM Chouhan directed to submit the action taken report to the Chief Minister’s Office. Here, the corporation commissioner was engaged in restoring the system throughout the day. He inspected and took a meeting regarding this.
Long wait for tankers: The Bhopal Municipal Corporation had a shut-down the water supply for the next 60 hours from 10 am on May 12. Due to this, the corporation had made a plan to supply through tankers, but this plan also failed. In many areas the tankers did not reach even after 24 hours.
The tankers of the corporation kept running on Monday, but they were very less as per the requirement.
Tanker operators taking advantage of the opportunity: Water is supplied through tankers from many areas including Kolar. The rates of tankers remained the same for two days before the shutdown, but after that the tanker operators started taking advantage of the opportunity. By Sunday, the rate of a tanker had reached 2,000 rupees, but on Monday it increased even more. There was no restraint on them.
Supply in these areas, dirty water in most: In the night of Sunday-Monday, the Municipal Corporation has supplied water to PGBT, Putlighar, Congress Nagar, Green Park, Chowkse, JP Nagar, Arif Nagar, Pinjamol, Shantinagar, Bal Vihar, Bagh Munshi Hussain, Ram Mandir, Moti Masjid, Ginnauri, Wahidia, Jawahar Bal Garden, Shastri Nagar, TT Nagar, Platinum Plaza, Block No-89, Narmada Bhawan, Char Tamarind, E-6, Meera Mandir, Janata Colony, Bangaria, E-2, 1100 Quarter, Buddha Math, Shahpura, Shahpura Cantonment etc areas.
