The oldest tiger of Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR) namely Waghdoh was found dead near Sinala village on Monday. The tiger might have died due to old age, said Prakash Lonkar, Chief Conservator of Forests, Chandrapur Circle, on Monday.
According to information, a villager of Sinala noticed the carcass of tiger.
He immediately reported the matter to Forest Department officials. On being informed, the forest staff reached the spot for inspection.
Waghdoh, the oldest and famed feline of the TATR, died some two days ago. The 15-year-old tiger had recently killed a shepherd in Sinala. Since then, forest officials of Chandrapur Forest Division have been watching the movement of the tiger. The animal might have died due to old age. The carcass was in a decomposed state, informed CCF Prakash Lonkar. The postmortem on the tiger was conducted by the doctors and it was cremated in the presence of forest officials.
It was informed that due to old age the tiger migrated from TATR to the buffer zone of TATR and settled near Sinala village. It had attacked Dashrath Pendor (65) and killed on May 21, when he had to the forest area near the village to graze his goats.
