Eram, Dhyanchand lift 7-a-side hockey titles

ERAM Hockey Club edged out Ira International School to clinch the seven-a-side hockey tournament organised by Nagpur Athletics Club at Vidarbha Women’s Hockey Association’s Tiger’s Gap ground in Sadar on Sunday.
The tournament was organised in memory of Dharamraj Kanojiya, Anil Fulsunge and Ashish Reddy, all former hockey players. Ankita Sapate deflected a beautiful ball from a close range to give Eram Club the lead in the second half (17th) minute. Ira International tried hard to draw parity but they missed several chances. The scoreline remained unchanged at the end of the match. In the men’s final, Dhyanchand beat Orange City 7-6 via tie-breaker after both the teams were locked at 2-2 at the end of regulation time.
Akib Rahim (2nd, 26th) scored both the goals for Dhyanchand in regulation time while Aamid Khan (20th) and Irshad Mirza (22nd) scored for Orange City. In tie-breaker, Sushil Maskare, Akib Rahim, Shakeen Sheikh and Shubham scored for Dhyanchand while Irshad, Naresh Telang, Shreyas Dhupe and Shadan Khan scored for Orange City. In sudden death, Akib Rahim sealed the deal for Dhyanchand.
Earlier, in the hardline finals, AGRC men defeated Eagle Sports 4-3 via sudden death to take the third spot.
Avesh Ansari, Jeetesh Singh and Tiras scored for the accountmen in tie breaker while for Eagle, Navin Kathaute, Lalit Darwai and Mohit Kathaute scored.
In the sudden death, Pramod shook the net for AGRC while Lalit failed to score for Eagle.
In girls third place match which was also decided via tie-breaker, Yavatmal defeated Dinanath 5-3.
Ashta Mahajan, Jayashree Kukde, Chandana, Palak Sawaimul and Shweta Dhumal scored for Yavatmal while for Dinanath, Jaya Singh, Anuradha Gule and Muskan Upadhyay scored.
