Vishal Khatri, son of a farmer, who had his early education at Narkhed Nagar Parishad School, cleared Civil Services Examination for the second time. The result of Civil Services Examination was declared on Monday in which Vishal got upper rank. In 2019, Vishal had cracked Civil Services Examination for the first time when he stood 5th in Indian Forest Service (IFS). Vishal joined IFS and while his training was underway at Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy, Dehradun, he kept preparing for second attempt to crack Civil Services Examination again. This time, his rank is quite high and he is likely to get either Indian Administrative Services (IAS) or Indian Police Service (IPS). In his last interview to ‘The Hitavada’, he had expressed his wish to get Indian Administrative Service (IAS) or IPS. He had secured 5th position in the IFS ranking in 2019.
“Every service of Civil Services has its own importance, which nobody refuses. But, there is something more one can do in IAS, IPS. These services have larger connect with society, so I feel I can do something concrete for the upliftment of the people,” said Khatri. The education journey of this Narkhed boy is very interesting. After completing his education till Class X at Nagar Parishad School, Vishal joined Shivaji Science College where he came out with flying colours. On the basis of his performance in Class XII and Common Entrance Test (CET), he got berth in a prestigious institute like Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Powai. As far as top class job is concerned, Vishal’s chances for the same increased as he got admission in IIT, Powai. He got a job at Boston Consulting Group (BCG) at Rajasthan on a project where lot of IAS and IPS were involved. Large scale working set-up was there. There, he witnessed how to deal with Department of Environment, Forest, etc.
When Vishal returned to Narkhed after resigning from BCG, parents of any other boy would have cursed him for leaving the job, but his parents stood by him. What prompted him to go for Civil Services leaving the comfort zone? While working on the project at Rajasthan, Vishal felt, if the same system is applied in other sectors too, it will benefit masses. With this in mind, he decided to appear in Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Examination And Vishal Dinanath Khatri, after a rigorous study of 8 to 10 hours daily, cleared the examination. Normally, candidates opt easy subjects as the optional ones in the examinations like UPSC, but Vishal chose Mathematics. Preparing for the same examination more rigorously needed lot of patience, perseverance, focus. One finds such repeated preparations, quite boring. But Vishal was determined and knew he had to secure top number. “This time, I was undergoing training at Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy, so got less time. Since most of the things I had studied during my earlier examination, I did not have to exert much for the second time,” said Vishal Khatri.
During his school and college education, Vishal kept participating actively in extra-curricular and sports activities. It is this participation that helped him develop a positive attitude. English speaking remained the main obstacle for Vishal. His parents-- father Dinanath is a farmer and mother Kiran--housewife have reading habit, which was inculcated by Vishal. Due to this reading habit, he could overcome weakness of non-fluency in English. Vishal’s younger brother Sagar, who also studied in IIT, Powai is based in Singapore. Vishal is probably the first from Narkhed to crack UPSC. President of Narkhed Municipal Council Abhijit Gupta and Zilla Parishad Member Salil Deshmukh have congratulated Vishal Khatri and his family.
